Was wondering if The PDGC have by-laws? If so what are they? Thanks

Is anyone going to answer me or does no one know the answer?

CLUBS BY-LAWS Empty ByLaws

Post  steve h Tue Mar 16, 2010 12:00 pm

Jeff had told me that the Club does have ByLaws - if he gets a copy to me and permission I will publish them on the web page or he might post them in the Forum.

Jeff... What do you think?

CLUBS BY-LAWS Empty Re: CLUBS BY-LAWS

I think its time to answer a lot of unanswered questions. Let me start by saying that we (meaning playground disc golf club) are in fact a non-profit organization. We are registered with the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations.(click here to see) We spent time and personal money to make this happen. So please don't think we are not a legitimate club.( We formed this club because we love disc golf and want to promote it in our area and hopefully bring all of us disc golf enthusiasts together) The proof is in the pudding in which im providing. I also saw that people have said things to Steve about being disappointed in the club. Steve is right, don't go to him about your complaints. If you have complaints address the board. Its not fair to him or to us. I will say that our former treasurer just left and moved back to Kansas without any warning after our fundraiser/ace race tourny. We had no idea what our money situation was and it did put a kink into everything, but we got everything we needed and everything is back on track. I speak for myself and not the others but anyone that would like to get on the board I have no problem getting the board together and voting. The only thing is they must be qualified and also a member of the club, having a bag tag doesn't make you a member, you have to pay your membership due.Me personally, I think Teresa and Ronda key would be a asset to the board and the club. I see their enthusiasm and love for the sport and wanting to get the word out about disc golf. Im going to address Steve's comment about him wishing that we would do what Gary is doing. Steve, we have been planning to do what Gary is doing. When it comes to this kind of thing we like to plan and have every kink worked out so that when it comes time the players and the TD's have a great time and want to come back and have something to look forward to. One of the big things we were waiting on was the time change. Gary just beat us to the punch by posting first, but that doest matter. We are still going to follow through with the mini we planned on.So be on the look out for it soon .There will be all divisions for men and women. It will be a fun time. As far as the PDGC BYLAWS go,We do have BYLAWS and I will post them in a different thread. I hope this clears up any doubts anyone might have had about the club.

CLUBS BY-LAWS Empty Non-profit question

Post  DiscKey Tue Mar 16, 2010 10:39 pm

PDGC is non-profit? As in approved 501(c)3 non-profit? If so, that is great! I am familiar with the actual 501(c)3 process and the paperwork/IRS application is very extensive and is very time consuming. With the exception of the end of the "investments" article, I didn't see in the bylaws/articles about being approved to be a 501(c)3 non-profit or an article of dissolution(which would state where all leftover money would go if the corporation was to dissolve) The only reason I am asking is because with the 501(c)3 paperwork I have been familiar with a dissolution statement was mandatory. But as I said earlier, if PDGC has been approved, congratulations on completing the process!

Also, I can't speak for my sisters (Teresa and Ronda) but why didn't PDGC utilize an already established club in ECDGC and be incorporated by them as an extension of Emerald Coast?

Also, 501(c)3 is designated for "charitable" organizations and does not include "social" clubs. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that a disc golf club would fall into 501(c)7 tax exempt status. If you register with the State of FL and claim to be a "non-profit," you still have to file with the IRS and they have to approve the organization as such. Here is a link the above mentioned: http://www.irs.gov/charities/nonprofits/article/0,,id=96189,00.html

Just trying to help and get clarification.

CLUBS BY-LAWS Empty Board Terms

Post  steve h Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:16 pm

Noticed that the the Club By Laws state that the term is for three years. Is the current board in controll for 3 years or will the members be able to vote each year for their board members?

CLUBS BY-LAWS Empty THINK WE MIGHT GET AN ANSWER?

I believe you will scare off future board members if they have to serve for three years - that is an such a long term for anyone. How about keeping the calendar up dated? Are the board meeting open to the membership? How about posting the board meetings on the calendar so we can attend? What about membership cards? Why did the board not respond to Gary's post about the handycap league - since you already had this in the works it might have been a good idea to to let the rest of us know. What does it actually take to plan in order to get it right?? Seems like Gary had everything in order. Maybe you can clean up the forum of past post that are no longer in use.

Maybe we can get the board to communicate a little better with the rest of us??

The Bylaws state that "Each director shall hold office for a term of three (3) years."
This does not mean that it is set in stone. Upon further discussion we may amend this section. As of now the term is three (3) years.

Some board meetings are open to members, while some are not. The ones we hold that are not, are simply for us to get together and pull some ideas around. Any big changes going to be happening will be with a meeting open for members only.

As far as the calendar, I don't know how to update the actual website, but I will create a section for us to post when and where meetings will be so that members can attend.

Good idea for the membership cards, I will look into getting some printed up soon if the rest of the board agrees with this decision.

By clean up the forum of past posts, do you mean erase the threads not in use anymore? I don't see a reason to close off things, except maybe about past tournaments just in case someone new comes and wants to add something to it. Maybe an old discussion will start something big one day.
